Praise to the Lord, the Almighty
SDAH-001SDAH Hymn #1 — "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty" has opened the Seventh-day Adventist Hymnal since its 1985 revision, setting the tone for an entire hymnal of adoration and praise. The tune LOBE DEN HERREN (14.14.4.7.8) was composed by Joachim Neander around 1680 and first published in his collection Glaub- und Liebesübung. The text, based on Psalm 103:1–5, was translated into English by Catherine Winkworth in 1863.
Psalm 103:1–5
Psalm 103:1–5 — "Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name."
Stately and flowing in 3/4. Each phrase should breath naturally at the bar lines. The long note values invite clear diction — congregation and choir both need to hear every syllable.
